Question Packs
How to add equations to questions and answers
Use Packslet's equation builder to add mathematical notation to question prompts and answer choices.
- Create a new question pack or open a question pack from your library. For detailed instructions, see How to create a question pack.
- In the question builder, enter any regular text you want in Question Text, then place your cursor where the equation should appear.
- Click the Add equation button marked with a sigma (Σ) beside the question field.
- In the Add an equation window, type your equation or choose a template or symbol from the Basics, Relations, Algebra, Geometry, Advanced, or Greek tabs.
Tip: You can type
^for exponents,_for subscripts, and/for fractions. Use the templates when you need more structure, such as a fraction, square root, integral, or ordered pair.
- Click Insert equation. Packslet adds the equation at your cursor. Check the Preview below the question text area to see how the complete question will appear. You can continue typing regular text before or after the equation and add more than one equation to the same field.
- To add an equation to an answer choice, click the Add equation button beside that answer field and repeat the same process. Equation buttons are available for multiple-choice answers; true/false answers remain True and False.
- Click the icon beside each correct answer choice, then click Create Question. Multiple-choice questions can have more than one correct answer; true/false questions have one.
To change an equation later, click Edit beside the question. Place your cursor inside the existing equation, click Add equation, make your changes, and click Insert equation. Review the preview, then click Save changes.
Type equations manually
If you are comfortable with LaTeX-style notation, you can type an equation directly into a question or answer field. Begin the equation with \( and end it with \) so Packslet knows which text to format as math.
| Enter manually | Displays as |
|---|---|
\(6 \div 2\) | 6 ÷ 2 |
\(x^2\) | x² |
\(x_1\) | x₁ |
\(\frac{3}{4}\) | A stacked 3/4 fraction |
\(\sqrt{16}\) | √16 |
\(a \le b\) | a ≤ b |
\(\pi r^2\) | πr² |
Note: Both
\(and\)are required. If either marker is missing, Packslet displays the entry as regular text. For more complex equations, use the Add equation button to avoid formatting errors.
Equations display in question packs, games, and reports. On printed worksheets, Packslet converts mathematical notation to a plain-text version.
